While I typically prefer white wine, I do love a good Zin. I bought this bottle at Total Wine in Scottsdale, Arizona for $11.86 (that includes tax). Not a bad price at all for the quality of the wine. OZV Zinfandel has won several 90+ awards over the years, including 95 points.
From Lodi, California, this wine gets its intense flavors from vines that range 50 to 100 years old. Upon pouring, the wine was a deep-ish plum color. A mix of cherries, blackberries, and an earthy spice that blends together to create a wonderful sensation. I tasted notes of chocolate and mocha as well. While a zin typically has a very rich flavor profile, I found this one to be on the sweeter end of the spectrum. OZV is jammy from the berry notes and has a strong finish.
OZV suggests pairing it with Memphis-style BBQ ribs or pepperoni pizza. (Haha kind of random and fun, right?)
