This weeks wine of the week is yet another bottle that we picked up on our Euro trip in Nice, France. This 2016 Château de L’Escarelle Rosé was incredible.

We paired this Rosé with black cod, salad, a mushroom dish and challah (bread).
This weeks Wine of the Week is a 2013 Châteauneuf Du Pape from Piedlong and also a review of Bateau restaurant in Seattle, WA. This is a special review because we purchased this bottle during our trip to France recently. It was about 50 Euros, so close to $55/$60 in US currency. We purchased it from a small, independent wine shop in Nice. We took this bottle with us to celebrate my birthday at Bateau in Seattle as well. We paired this wine with many of their appetizer/entree options including their Bateau salad, carpaccio, fried summer squash, frites with aioli, buttery mashed potatoes and top sirloin steak. It was incredible! The sleek palate of the wine complimented the steak. Notes seemed to be of black currant and a mix of other dark berries/fruits. I would highly recommend this wine and restaurant if you’re looking for an upscale, fun night out. The interior of the restaurant is modern and aesthetically interesting. A giant chalkboard is displayed showing the cuts of the day and crossed off individually as each person orders.

This weeks Wine of the Week is a bubbly from Scotty Browns Restaurant in Bellevue, WA. This upscale social house/lounge offered a wonderful Italian Prosecco from Riondo. Light floral notes with a crisp finish, it was refreshing choice for a warm fall day. The restaurant had a fun vibe with a large selection of pub style food ranging from dishes like pizza/flatbread to sushi and even Poké. I would recommend this restaurant for families or a date night out with your partner/friends. The prices were decent as well, it was $8 for a glass of the Prosecco and $32 for the bottle. This weeks Wine of the Week is a Bordeaux from France… tasted in France! 🇫🇷 Notes include ripe, juicy red fruits such as dark cherries, slight oak and a light smokiness. I found this bottle in Chamonix, France for about $35 euro. We paired it with steak frites and a beet salad. The wine was pricey compared to what I normally like to spend on a bottle but we wanted to treat ourselves while dining out on vacation. I’d highly recommend this bottle if you can find it in the states or a Bordeaux from France in general.
This weeks Wine of the Week is exceptional because we tasted wine from France… in France! 🇫🇷 I found this 2013 Côtes Du Rhone by Domaine Des Andrines at a restaurant in Annecy called La Savoyarde. The price for the bottle was about the equivalent of $25-30 American dollars. Let me tell you… the food and wine in France is so much better than in the US. Everything is fresh and local so the quality is incredible. I paired this wine with steak frites (steak with French fries), a very common and popular dish in France.
Soft, fruity, and easy to drink. Notes include plum, mixed berries, herbs and a pinch of pepper.
This week was special because I ordered a 2016 Rosé by Pomelo, a California wine from Mason Cellars that I really love. As many of you know, I love the Pomelo Sauvignon Blanc and didn’t even know that Mason Cellars made a Rosé until recently! I searched numerous different grocery store chains, large commercial wine shops and small, independently owned wine shops to find their Rosé but didn’t have any luck. After a frustrating search I realized that I couldn’t order the Rosé directly from the Mason Cellars site, and had to order it from One Stop Wine Shop (http://www.onestopwineshop.com/). The bottle itself is $12.00 plus shipping which was around $14. The total for the wine then was about $26. I found this site to be helpful though because they sell many different kinds of wine, so it’s worth checking out if you can’t find a specific bottle at your local/nearest grocery stores and wine shops! Another frustration I ran into was that I didn’t realize you had to be at your place of residence to sign for packages. I was out of town and didn’t know this so I had the package sent to my nearest UPS. Upon picking up the bottle, I was then charged an additional $10 for their “service fee”. The bottle then cost a total of $36. More expensive than I’d have liked to pay, but again I was just happy to taste the wine I’d been searching for.
When traveling to the Oregon Coast recently we decided to stop off at Four Graces Vineyard in the Dundee Hills. It was so quaint and cute! As many of you know, the Willamette Valley is known for their good wine, so I was ecstatic to take this detour. We didn’t have time to do a full tasting so I opted for a glass of their 2016 Pinot Blanc. The price for the glass was $8, and the bottle price was $24. It was so delicious! Highly recommend. The service was great and it was fun to sit outdoors and enjoy the warm summer weather in Oregon.
